Our Legal Practice Course (LPC) is rigorous and practical and has received the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s highest rating in all areas of assessment at all our existing centres. The majority of teaching is in small, student-centred workshops, and you’ll get a hands-on experience with plenty of opportunities to practise your legal skills through real cases in a context appropriate to your area of interest. We have the widest selection of vocational elective subjects available and uniquely offer three different LPC routes, allowing you to specialise in your chosen field:

  • Commercial and private route – to prepare you for the huge range of practice options across the commercial and private sector
  • Corporate route – to prepare you for work in a corporate law firm
  • Public legal services route – to prepare you for practice in the publicly-funded legal sector

Students who successfully complete our LPC will earn 60 Master’s level credits and be a third of the way towards our LL.M in Professional Legal Practice.

How is the course taught?

You’ll cover the following core practice areas in either corporate or commercial and private contexts: business law & practice, civil & criminal litigation and property law & practice. We’ll help build your skills in the following essential areas: advocacy, interviewing & advising, practical legal research, problem-solving & IT and writing & drafting. The additional areas of study are: professional conduct & regulation, wills & administration of estates and taxation. You’ll study three vocational elective subjects relevant to your choice of LPC route – please visit our website for the full list of vocational elective subjects – www.college-of-law.co.uk/LPC

How are candidates assessed?

You’ll be assessed on the core practice areas and vocational electives by examination. Your oral skills will be assessed by a video performance and other skills by examination or coursework.
