If you want to work in a fast-paced environment and have the potential to be one of the top earners in finance, then treasury is for you.
What is corporate treasury?
A corporate treasurer works within a team to protect the company's financial assets and to always ensure the company has the necessary cash available to run its business. The treasury team will deal with the banking requirements, the funding for the business and manage financial risk. Treasury therefore incorporates raising and managing money, currency, commodity and interest rate risk management and dealing, and, in some organisations, the related areas of insurance, pensions, property and taxation. Even where no dedicated role exists, someone in the organisation will almost certainly be taking on the treasury role as part of their job.
A career in treasury requires you to work in a fast-paced environment whilst dealing with dynamic global markets and to be a key contributor to your organisation’s future strategy. You are likely to begin your career investing cash, dealing with foreign exchange or developing financial models. You will handle the relationships with shareholders, banks and other lenders and will almost certainly be dealing with sums of money running into the millions, even billions.
