University Profile

Warburg Institute

The institute is concerned with the history of the classical tradition - those elements of European thought, literature, art and institutions which derive from the ancient world. Developed from the Hamburg library of Aby Warburg, it was incorporated in the university in 1944; its library and photographic collection are outstanding resources for inter-disciplinary research. The institute runs a doctoral programme and offers a specialised MA course on the history of the Renaissance.
